"Capturing the Canning" Series
"Paperbarks" is a playful Mixed Media piece depicting the Paperbarks along the Canning River in Western Australia.
It is painted on a full sheet of 300gm Watercolour paper. It began with a random watercolour wash after applying some resist to areas to preserve the highlights. Acrylic inks were splashed around the foreground and conte crayons drew out the branches. Light splashes of raw sienna add the only colour to what is a monotone piece.
To me it has created an air of mystery which is always present while walking along the Canning River in the early morning with the pealing Paperbarks, misty water and cheerful birdsong.
The Canning River is on the doorstep to my Studio so why not make the time to include a walk when you come to visit the exhibition.
